Breaking news flashed across televisions from LA to Georgia announcing the possible dissolution of the marriage between Courteney Cox and David Arquette. The couple announced that they would experiment with a trial separation before permanently ending their relationship through a high-asset divorce.

Together, the couple has built up an extreme net worth through their production company, Coquette Productions. The production company produced the shows Dirt and the currently popular Cougar Town which would be considered community property under California Law. Also included in the assets to be equally divided is the profit from the sale of their Malibu beach front home. The investment more than tripled since they purchased it for $10 million in 2001 and sold the property for $33.5 million.

It is unclear as of yet whether the couple had signed a prenuptial agreement, although most wealthy Hollywood couples enter into one upon the advice of their attorneys. A prenuptial agreement is especially helpful in cases such as this one where one spouse entered into the relationship already earning significantly more than their partner does.

In this case, Courteney Cox was and still is the more successful of the two. Her net worth is value at around $75 million. While earning $5 and $7 million respectively for her appearances in Scream 2 and 3, her role as Monica Bing in the popular sitcom Friends has been her biggest success. By the end of production, she was earning $1 million per episode on top of syndication earnings and royalties.

While a prenuptial agreement could protect her individual assets, it cannot be used to eliminate child support. Courteney and David both promise that they will put the needs of their daughter, Coco first. “We remain best friends and responsible parents to our daughter,” the couple told media reporters after announcing their split.
