Miami Heat Star Dwyane Wade Testified in Custody Dispute, Admitted Regret

| Oct 19, 2010 | Firm News, Modifications Of Child Custody And Support |

NBA “All Star” Dwyane Wade has recently made headlines in the news for issues other than his hamstring injury causing him to miss a percentage of the basketball preseason. The Miami Heat guard testified in family court on Friday and resumed the testimony on Monday over modification of the child custody order concerning his two young sons, ages 8 and 3.

The testimony of the famous basketball player contained admissions of regret for his failure to work harder to maintain the relationship with his former wife. He admitted that if he could go back in time, he would have acted differently and sought professional therapy to keep the family intact.

Wade’s divorce from his high school sweetheart was finalized in June, 2010 after an unsuccessful three-year trial separation. The court had awarded physical possession of the two young boys upon recommendation by the attorney who represented the children’s interests. Evidence indicated that Wade had been unable to consistently visit with his children prior to filing his request for sole custody of the children in July.

Wade denied allegations that he had sexual relations with his current girlfriend, actress Gabrielle Union, in front of his sons. He also denied abandoning the children with his ex-wife and claimed that she had denied visitation on multiple occasions. Since July, he claims that he has frequently spent time with the boys and talks on the phone with them daily. Wade’s testimony also refuted accusations that he used drugs or owned weapons that would be dangerous to the children.
