Did Lil Wayne Father a 5th Child? Hurricane, Incarceration Delayed Answer

| Nov 30, 2010 | Firm News, Visitation Rights |

One young boy has spent 8 years of his life wondering who his father is, and for those 8 years, his grandmother and mother have claimed that Dwayne Michael Carter, Jr., the rapper more commonly known as Lil Wayne, was the father of the child. For 8 years, they have tried to obtain a declaration of paternity, but several factors have delayed an answer to their question.

The young boy was brought into the world in 2002, and according to the grandmother, attempts to contact the rapper went unanswered for a significant amount of time. The refusal to answer her request for paternity forced the grandmother to file for a court ordered paternity test. The proper documents were organized and the case was filed in family court at the time when Hurricane Katrina had begun to form.

The hurricane not only ravaged the city, but it damaged vital court documents and records which caused a delay in the court proceedings. Once the grandmother was finally able to obtain the court order, she received news that the alleged father had been incarcerated at Rikers Island in New York. While serving his 8 month sentence for a weapons conviction, the grandmother was unable to execute the court order.

In 2010, Lil Wayne was released from prison and the family court judge has declared December 9, 2010 as the deadline for the rapper to take the paternity test. Lil Wayne is currently the father of four children from four different mothers; the 8-year-old boy would be his fifth.
